Savings Calendar
Project Brief.
The Center of Advanced Hindsight has been working on a calendar intervention for low income Kenyans in Nairobi. We needed to improve their calendar intervention. The CAH team is working with the M-TIBA program that is already established in Kenya. The intervention budget was 0.25 -0.60$ per calendar.

Problem Space.
The Kenyan users were attracted to calendar intervention by the CAH team and responded well to stories but when put together the result wasn’t as impactful as expected. We needed to redesign the calendar to better execute and sustain savings behavior.
Research and Definition
Fortunately, the CAH team had case studies and other research material for us to begin our research. We went through various materials, conducted surveys, and interviews. We looked at the previous work the CAH team had done as precedence.

Development
We held several brainstorming sessions to come up with solutions. We had feedback from different members of the team who had different backgrounds. Below are some of the idea sketches we were looking into.
When we had sufficient promising ideas to pursue we evaluated the ideas. We looked at the pros and cons of each mechanism and possible routes.
Idea Evaluation
We continued the process of making and getting feedback. With this we were in a better position to understand the experience we were trying to create. I created a storyboard to depict that experience to the other team members. I had suggested the idea of using football (soccer) as a means to connect with the population. Football is very popular and goes beyond gender norms. This allows for gamification of the system to something they already are familiar with.

Once we were ready for user testing, we recorded responses from people from the Kenyan community as well as other designers. We audio recorded the feedback we received. We later transcribed the recording and began looking at key takeaways. With this we began refining the design of the calendar.
